Acromegaly
Understanding this condition
Acromegaly (a-kro-MEG-aly) is a rare disease. It is caused when your pituitary (pi-TU-I-tary) gland, a tiny pea-sized gland that is just below the brain, makes too much growth hormone. In most cases, the cause of this excessive production of GH is a noncancerous tumor in the pituitary. Too much growth hormone can cause the hands and feet to slowly get larger. Other changes in appearance, as well as inside the body, can also happen.
