Asthma (AZ-muh) is an airway disease. It occurs when the airways the body uses to breathe overreact to something in the environment. The signs of asthma are tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, and wheezing. An asthma attack can be brief, or it can last for a few days. Inhaled medication is the most common form of asthma treatment.
