Osteoporosis
Understanding this condition
Osteoporosis (OS-teo-por-O-sis) happens most often in women who have stopped having periods. That's when a woman's ovaries make less and less of a female hormone called estrogen (ES-tro-jen). Estrogen helps keep bones strong. Without it, bones may become weak and break more easily.
