Changing the Conversation: Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation Transforms People with Psoriasis into Art to Support the Psoriasis Community
Oct 31, 2016
Did you know there are as many as 7.5 million Americans living with psoriasis?1 Despite the high prevalence of this disease, the Novartis Clear Skin Survey – the largest global survey of patients with psoriasis – found that 85% of U.S. respondents experienced social stigma because of their disease. The survey also found that 21% hid themselves away.2
To understand the impact of psoriasis on those who live with this disease, Novartis commissioned renowned body painting artist and psoriasis sufferer, Natalie Fletcher, to paint the inspirational journey of three National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) bloggers with psoriasis: Alisha Bridges, Howard Chang and Jaime Moy.
Using their skin as her canvas and gentle, body safe paints Natalie worked throughout the day to create themes of faith, transformation and the unique journey of the psoriasis patient. The result? Striking “living art” which participants hope will break down feelings of isolation among psoriasis sufferers and change the conversation about what it means to live with this disease.
We are honored to partner with Natalie, Alisha, Jaime and Howard to show the world that psoriasis is not contagious, but hope, inspiration, and being beautiful on the inside is.
